Music

Good Shepherd School students have several opportunities to express themselves through Music.

Each class has a classroom Music lesson each week. These lessons centre around singing, movement, notation and history. Students from Year 3 learn the recorder. School Choir is mandatory in Year 4 and optional in Years 5 and 6. Students have the opportunity to perform in Choral Eisteddfods (competitions) each year.

Good Shepherd boasts a balanced instrumental program, with nine instrumental teachers. The following instruments are covered: piano, trumpet, trombone, tuba, flute, guitar, percussion, clarinet and saxophone. We work closely with staff from Mazenod College when implementing our instrumental music program. Good Shepherd School has two bands. The bands perform at a variety of events during th year.

Good Shepherd hosts a bi-annual Music Gala which showcases our choirs and the school’s instrumental program. A School Performance takes place on the alternate year to the Music Gala.

Music is a means for many children to express themselves in beautiful ways. It enables them to enjoy, to receive structure and to be creative at the same time. At Good Shepherd, we are blessed to have the means to do just that.
